Soar Training (ongoing)
Course Description: The SAMHSA SOAR TA Center offers two Online Courses that train case managers to assist individuals to apply for
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), disability income benefit programs administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA). Both courses offer comprehensive information about the disability determination process as well as the SOAR Critical Components of completing SSI/SSDI applications. Each course includes seven classes with articles and “Try-Its” to test your knowledge as you go. There is also a Practice Case - a unique opportunity to put what you are learning into practice by completing an SSI/SSDI application packet for a fictional adult applicant or an SSI application for a fictional child applicant. We provide the progress notes, medical records, interview videos, and all the forms you need to complete and submit your Practice Case Application Packet to the SAMHSA SOAR TA Center for individualized review and feedback. Enrollment in these courses is FREE and open to anyone who would like to learn more about SOAR and SSI/SSDI applications. However, the completion of the Practice Case Application Packet is geared toward those case managers who will be assisting adults and/or children with applications once they complete the course.
