United Way Worldwide's work in Education began nearly 20 years ago with the inception of Success By 6 and the original mission to improve the quality, affordability and accessibility of early care and education programs for children so they enter school ready to learn and achieve. That work has evolved to reach deep into the community with effective partnerships and targeted programs to address situational and long-term family and early childhood needs; public awareness campaigns; school attendance; summer learning; school readiness; Pre-K - 3rd grade family engagement; healthy growth and development; literacy and enhanced Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) opportunities for students.

Here in Santa Barbara County, we have a focus on Literacy. Our two main literacy programs, Imagination Library and Reading Plus, dramatically improve literacy in participating students. Imagination Library works with children under the age of 5, and Reading Plus helps 4th graders and above. We are always expanding these programs, so get in touch with us if you would like to find out how to get involved!
